About UsBrief History The “Friends” was formed for the express purpose of providing critically needed assistance to the park staff. Eden Gardens State Park has a historic home, extensive gardens and grounds, a picnic area on Tucker Bayou and an event pavilion, all of which require considerable “elbow grease” to keep in show condition. Thus far the Friends have contributed tens of thousands of hours of lovingly given labor to Eden Gardens. And they have raised the funds needed for maintenance and improvements throughout the park. We certainly welcome new members who wish to help us keep this historic place so beautiful. Currently, the Friends number about three hundred enthusiastic helpers.
Mission Statement The mission the The Friends of Eden Gardens State Park is to maintain and preserve the grounds and house of the park for the enjoyment of all area residents and visitors. Eden Gardens State Park and all of its physical assets are historically significant, having played an important role in the commercial and residential development of the Florida panhandle, thus it is imperative that they be protected and maintained in a manner which is conducive to perpetual benefit for all.
Organizational Objectives In addition to the daily maintenance responsibilities of the Friends’, several key longer term programs and processes are of important focus and attention: * Implementing the approved five year plan for redesign of the public areas of the park, to include new acreage previously unavailable. This redesign includes all motor ways and parking as well as many gardens, trails, eating and playground facilities. * Achieve significant growth in attendance and membership, to provide for the resources required to maintain the park and to see that all visitors are aware of the parks’ presence. * Add paid staff to the organization, particularly where such human resources are essential to the effective operation of the parks programs and public benefits. * Continued attention to long term planning and organizational structure as required. We are here to make Eden Gardens State Park available and enjoyable to everyone. We want to know if you have a particular question or a special request. The best way to get an answer is to write us at our mailing address, and note that it is for the Visitor Information Department. We promise to get right back to you.
Whether you are planning a visit, or are already here, we want to see and talk with you. Whether you would like to help us tend our gardens, or you would like to consider renting space at Eden Gardens State Park for your own event, we’re ready to assist you. We look forward to meeting your needs, and meeting you. And, while you are in the area, you might be interested in some other activities sponsored by our community partners; we know they would like to see you also.
